interconnectedness of everything

Everything that exists is an intricate part of the whole, all life is intertwined. This unifying principle can be observed everywhere we look. Next time it rains think about how the rain came from the vapour lifted up from the Earth by the air after the sun has warmed Earth’s rivers, seas and oceans. The rain brings water back to the Earth to nourish the plants and help seeds grow. Seeds which were planted into the Earth with the help of gravity, wind, water or animals. Animals feed on the plants nourishing themselves and fertilise the earth with what remains. Animals and humans breathe in oxygen provided by plants, while giving back carbon dioxide plants need to live, thus creating yet another cycle. Everything has its role, everything has its place, everything is in perfect balance.

Nature teaches us about interconnectedness of everything, about the laws of cause and effect, about the complexity of balance. Nature’s constant cycles reveal a rhythm of death and rebirth like day and night, moon cycles and seasons. It teaches us about the necessity of change how change brings about balance and renewal. Nature teaches us about co-dependency; everything is connected and us, humans are nothing more or less than a part of the whole. It teaches us the importance of every drop of rain in this ocean we call life.“Each one of us, not only human beings but every leaf, every weed, exists in the way it does, only because everything else around it does. The individual and the universe are inseparable.” ~Alan Watts

Watching the Amazon burn, killing thousands of sentient beings, burning thousand-year-old trees, flowers and other life which cannot be replanted, revived and rebuilt, so corporations can make more money and people can still enjoy their cheese, milk, hamburgers and stakes makes me think about this interconnectedness. Most of us, of course, feel bad but falsely believe that what is happening on the other side of the world has nothing to do with us. But, the truth is, it has everything to do with us. And if you believe in the cause and effect, it will ripple back to us, or more likely, hit us like a boomerang.

So, what can we do?

We need to start to think with our own heads and feel with our hearts. Be observant, tune in and see that, these laws which existed long before we have, still apply to everything around us as well as to ourselves. And all the knowledge is already within each and every one of us. It is just covered under a pile of illusion and delusion. We forgot, but if we silence the noise, it is possible to remember. Once we see that, we can start to question our believes, we can start to take responsibility for our words, actions, for everything we buy, eat, wear. We are all compliant and until we see that and start to change, nothing will. There will be another fire, flood, or an oil spill perhaps on another side of the world tomorrow. We will watch the news in shock, perhaps make a small donation, post prayers on social network and a minute later go about our day like nothing is changed, compliant and silent.

Isn’t it time to change that narrative? It led us nowhere so far. It is up to you and me to change something - today.

Right now, the lungs of the planet are burning. The raging wildfire in the Amazon is so extreme it can be seen from space.⁣
And we are responsible.⁣

🚫 Humans demand to eat animal products, so we raise and kill over 56 billion land animals every year for food. ⁣

🚫 Animal agriculture is responsible for up to 91% of Amazon deforestation.⁣

🚫 Mass areas of the Amazon are cleared, set alight and destroyed by farmers to make way for cattle grazing. ⁣

🚫 The UK imports 1.83 million tonnes of soya for animal feed every year. This equates to around 900,000 hectares of rainforest being destroyed just to produce soya for animal agriculture in the UK alone. To put that into perspective the total land area of the whole UK is around 24 million hectares. ⁣

🚫 A total of 136 million rainforest acres have been cleared for animal agriculture.⁣

🚫 Up to 100 plant, animal and insect species are lost every day due to rainforest destruction. ⁣

🚫 A significant portion of the global beef supply, including much of the UK’s corned beef supply, originates on land that was once Amazon rainforest and is now denuded.⁣

“These are not wildfires, but rather fires set by people seeking to create cattle ranches, intentionally ignited during the dry season each year. They cut the trees, leave the wood to dry and later put fire to it, so that the ashes can fertilize the soil.” - Ane Alencar, the scientific director of Brazilian NGO IPAM (Institute of Environmental Research in Amazonia).⁣

Brazil’s National Institute for Space Research (INPE) reported a record 72,843 fires this year, an 80% increase from last year. More than 9,000 of those fires have been spotted in the past week.⁣

We must make immediate changes to our lifestyles, there is absolutely no argument against the fact that this is the direct result of our apathy towards the environmental destruction our food choices have. If you are outraged by what is happening, then stop paying for this to happen. It’s only going to get worse.⁣

Our choices have far reaching consequences, and staying complacent will not save the planet. Taking action will.
